Stoppers for the Oleg Naydenov 2700m on the Seabed

Allpipe Stoppers have supplied a large number of inflatable stoppers to subsea specialists Fugro who hope to stem the flow of fuel into the waters off Gran Canaria from the sunken Russian vessel Oleg Naydenov.

The stoppers where rushed through production and coated with Nitrile to offer protection against the aggressive hydrocarbons leaking from the stricken vessel now lying at a depth of 2700 metres on the seabed. The stoppers will be secured into position by remotely operated underwater vehicle (R.O.V) while a permanent seal is created.

The Oleg Naydenov caught fire on April 11 while the vessel ...

Aluminised Proximity Suits

We have some pretty interesting equipment pass through our stores from time to time and when we were recently asked to source 12 heat proof suits for a client we took an extra one for ourselves to have a look at. These aluminised proximity suits enable the wearer to protect themselves against contact heats of up to 350 degrees C and radiation temperatures of up to a massive 1000 degrees C !

Manufactured from Kevlar composite aluminium and carbon fibre insulation and with helmets fitted with gold plated visors, proximity suits are often found being used around furnaces and smelting foundries ...

Allpipe Supplies Fire Retardant Lifejackets for Saipem $2.2 Billion Al Wasit Gas Project

Whilst it may be a tiny drop in the ocean of the $2.2 billion project Saipem has been awarded for the construction of pipe-lines and wellheads for the Al Wasit Gas Programme, we are nevertheless very pleased to have supplied over 100 Crewsaver offshore lifejackets to help enable personnel to carry out offshore work safely.

A proportion of the lifejackets needed to be equipped with fire retardant covers to enable activities such as welding to be carried out safely whilst avoiding damage to the lifejackets from errant sparks & weld spatter. We were able to deliver the full consignment along ...

Welding Respirator – a Scott Pro2 FFM modified with manufacturers components to become a cost effective & highly effective bit of welding RPE

We're big fans of Scott breathing apparatus and tucked away in their back catalogues are often quirky bits and pieces that are usually overlooked and sadly in some instances rapidly becoming obsolete.

Whilst rooting around in there recently we came across a little known set of add-ons to transform their Promask range of full face masks into great little welding respirators. We’ve rigged up this Pro2 with a flip-up welding visor which is easily fitted and removed in a few seconds, in addition to this the standard exhaust valve guard has been removed and replaced with a spark ...

RNLI Senior Lifeguard Puts Immersion Suit Through Paces

Congratulations to Rory Sacree who has just survived 24 hours in one of our Crewsaver Immersion Suits for charity. Currently working  for the Royal National Lifeboat Institutions (RNLI) International Development Team, Rory was set a challenge to reinact a "man over board" scenario and survive alone at sea for 24 hours off the North Cornish Coast - which he successfully completed despite foul weather for Float4life on the 20th August.

Rory has raised over 4K to help improve life saving equipment for West African countries Senegal and The Gambia and a portion of the funds will go to the Shark Trust ...

MSA Turbo Flow Breathing Apparatus Joins our Hire Fleet

MSA, or the Mine Safety Appliances company have been around since 1912 and now develop safety equipment globally for fire services, marine, military and industry.

We've just taken their Turbo-flow fresh air respirator into our hire fleet as it offers a very simple, cost effective method of delivering an unlimited amount of air to workers entering areas such as tanks, silos and many confined space situations. The airline breathing apparatus is positioned by the user so that it draws air from a clean source and by using either 9 or 18 meter hose lengths the wearer can draw air ...

Ray Ives - An Undersea Adventure

I was lucky enough to hang around SCUBA school in Cornwall when I was younger where eventually I reached instructor level - a long time ago I hasten to add! On the way you learn of urban legends, and Ray Ives was one of them. For those interested in old school diving equipment and the characters that inhabited the crazy 1980's offshore diving environments then this is a very cool, if not slightly self indulgent video (what the hell he's a diver!!). Check out Ray Ives, A Life Underwater Video
