VPS Flash Suit - The Pryoman Test

Leading on from my last post, the subject of gas tight suits reminded me of an excellent video (if your into this kind of thing!) 1st posted on youtube this time last year by Trellchem relating to a test carried out on their VPS Flash suit.

The VPS suit is certified to EN 943-2/ET and NFPA 1991, it includes chemical flash fire and liquefied gas protection and is approved for use in explosive environments. Crank up your volume and check out the Pyroman Test Video - enjoy!

Piper Alpha 25 Years - Lest We Forget

Its 25 years since disaster befell the North Sea production platform Piper Alpha in July 1988. Starting at around 10.00 pm on the 6th a series of enormous explosions tore through the platform over the course of an hour resulting in the fatalities of 167 men including that of 2 Rescue Personnel piloting a RIB. There were 61 survivors.

At least in North Sea oil fields the legacy of the Piper Alpha disaster was that oil & gas companies invested heavily in health & safety for their rigs and personnel. 25 years on whether this legacy extends beyond the North Sea ...

NY2SY Better Luck Next Year

At Allpipe we like adventurers, explorers and people who take on challenging environments whether it be for work, research or just for the sheer hell of it, so when Niall Iain Macdonald gave us a call and announced, "I'd like to hire an immersion suit for 3 months please, I'm rowing solo from New York to Stornoway", we were suitably impressed. Niall is taking on this immense challenge in aid of the Scottish Association For Mental Health (SAMH) and we wish him the best of luck.

Sadly this year Niall couldn't get his boat ready on time ...

Stoney Cove Easter Weekend - OTS Full Face Mask & Equipment Review

Ok so this is a completely gratuitous posting (I've added an equipment review to make up for it!), but supplying gas masks and rubber suits to the great and the good is an infectious job ;-) so this Easter weekend after a 10 year moratorium I decided to don my own fancy dress and immerse myself in a luxuriant 4 degree C flooded quarry - the one and only Stoney Cove along with around 100 other perfectly sane divers.

A Big thank you to Christal Seas Scuba, Norwich for organising the weekend and for persuading me to spend the extra on ...

Inner Space...Man...

Sometimes we are asked to source a piece of apparatus or a system that we know only a very few people on our planet would be far-out enough to use - and we love the challenge! In this instance we were approached by a Polish catalyst handling company to find them the GB solo umbilical fed ATEX helmet, life support system, back-up and comms. For those of you who need a brief introduction to catalyst handling -  to get a reactor really fizzing you gonna need a catalyst, when the catalyst is spent your gonna need to shovel it out in order ...

Sari Full Face Mask - Takes a Good Lickin'

Thank you to David Treagger aka Liveryman for approaching us to replace his Sari FFM with Triplex visor & Proflow SC powered air unit. David has been spraying aircraft for 10 years with his respirator and aircraft paint is particularly corrosive on equipment, it's a testament to the humble Sari mask that it has taken 10 years of hammering before needing to be replaced!
